What is memory care?
Memory care is a specialized senior living community for people with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory loss conditions. It's purpose-built for safety and structure: a secure perimeter that prevents wandering, higher staff-to-resident ratios (usually 1:6 or better), staff trained in dementia care, and routines designed to reduce confusion. National average cost is $6,500–$8,500/month in 2026.
Who is memory care for?
Mom or Dad with diagnosed dementia or Alzheimer's, especially when wandering, sundowning, repetitive behaviors, or 24/7 supervision become daily realities. Often the right move when in-home care or a family caregiver can no longer keep them safe.
How much does it cost?
$6,500–$8,500/month nationally. The premium over assisted living covers higher staffing ratios, secure infrastructure, and specialized programming.
