Care type
What is respite stays?
Respite care is a short-term stay at an assisted living or memory care community — usually one to thirty days — designed to give the family caregiver a break. Mom moves into a furnished apartment and gets the same care she'd get as a permanent resident. Often used during a family vacation, after the caregiver's surgery, or as a trial run before considering a permanent move.
Who is respite stays for?
The spouse, daughter, or son who's been the primary caregiver and needs a real break — for travel, surgery recovery, work demands, or just sanity. Also a low-pressure way to try out a community before committing to a permanent move.
How much does it cost?
$150–$300/day depending on care level and location. Most communities require a minimum stay of 5–7 days.
